Outside Science Knowledge Questions
Read time: 2 minutes Last updated: September 23rd, 2024
Okay, so there is actually some science asked on the ACT® Science that you have to know in order to get the question correct. These questions are referred to as outside science knowledge questions, since they require students to know something that is not given on the test. These questions are few and far between. They sometimes appear once per test.
Moreover, the topics seldom repeat. You might see one topic tested on one test, then never again. The best advice for this topic is not to really worry about this. The topics don't come up consistently. This question type will show up at most once per test. Focus on getting every single other question right first. Then, if you still want to ensure you get every single question correct, then come look at this page.
Example Outside Science Knowledge
Does ML = mass or volume?
Volume
Describe the production with a chemical equation (based on the passage).
You'll need to know how to write chemical equations. If you don't know how to do that, you can still use P.O.E. to solve this type of question.
When water freezes or boils in Celsius.
Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius and boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
Is this thing a solution?
A solution means whatever thing they put into a mix is dissolved.
Conclusion
Remember, these outside science knowledge questions are rare and inconsistent. Focus on mastering the other question types first, and don't stress too much about memorizing random science facts for the ACT®.
